In the past, moulding was the standard procedure in crafting dental prostheses. Due to the high temperatures needed in the process, only very few metals were appliable. This was a huge limitation in choice of materials for dental technicians.
Today, the range of materials has broadened immensely by the discovery of CAD/CAM technology. By central production, almost every material could be used. Aesthetically attractive and biocompatible ceramics such as zirconium oxide can be worked on with incredible precision thanks to these technologies.
